Established in 1976, O.Henry’s is the oldest gay bar in North Carolina. O.Henry’s continues to be home to a friendly, fun staff and is welcoming to locals and travelers alike. The front has a comfortable lodge-like look with a feel good, neighborhood bar vibe. There’s always something happening at O.Henry’s. We have the best music, games, special events and daily drink specials in town. O.Henry’s is a great neighborhood gay bar where you know you can always meet your old friends and make some new ones.

The Underground

O.Henry’s also houses a cool, industrial dance bar in the back called “The Underground,” which hosts the popular "Total Gold Dance Your Ass Off” parties the first Friday of every month. Other special events include hip jazz & blues music to unforgettable cabaret and burlesque style shows, to goth nights.

The Underground is also available to rent for special occasions as it is not open every weekend. The Underground has a full bar and is available for dance parties, bridal parties, birthdays, wedding receptions, and so forth. Cost is $50 per hour with a minimum of 4 hours. This includes a bartender and doorperson. DJ is not included in the rental cost.

Membership

YES, WE'RE (STILL) A PRIVATE CLUB and annual memberships are $5.
We have chosen to remain a private club even though the law in North Carolina has changed. It's a decision we made for the safety of our patrons and everyone who works here. We want to know exactly who is coming into the bar.

From our very beginning, O.Henry's and The Underground have been safe gathering places for LGBTQIA people. We intend to remain a safe space and we welcome people of all orientations and identities to build community.

So please make sure you have your ID with you (you gotta have that anyway to show you are 21 or over) and we'll check you at the door or at the bar. Then you can get a membership for the year for $5 and your official O. Henry's Gay Card. OK maybe there is no "official" Gay Card. Anyone over 21 with a valid ID can be a member. Your $5 membership is valid immediately and good for the entire year.
